Motorcycle Rainwear Design & Manufacturing Guide

Motorcycle Rainwear for Wet Riding Conditions

Motorcycle rainwear is developed to protect riders from wind and rain while fitting comfortably over motorcycle jackets, trousers and protective equipment. Unlike ordinary casual rainwear, motorcycle rain gear must account for the seated riding position, increased wind pressure, protective garment bulk and prolonged exposure to wet road conditions.

Our development process begins by defining the intended riding environment, rainfall exposure, garment type and layering requirements. Patterns are engineered with sufficient allowance for wearing the rainwear over protective motorcycle clothing without creating excessive loose material that may flap at speed.

Rain jackets can include an extended rear hem, shaped sleeves and adjustable cuffs to improve coverage while the rider is seated. The front length, shoulder width and armhole construction are balanced to accommodate armour and outerwear while maintaining mobility.

Rain trousers can be developed with a raised rear waist, articulated knees and expandable lower-leg openings for easy use over motorcycle boots. One-piece rain suits may include long entry zippers, elasticated waist sections and reinforced closures to simplify dressing over riding gear.

Design options include two-piece rain suits, one-piece over-suits, packable jackets, waterproof over-trousers and high-visibility rainwear. Each prototype is evaluated for layering fit, seated coverage, closure security, boot access, mobility and packability before bulk-production approval.

Materials & Waterproof Construction

The performance of motorcycle rainwear depends on the waterproof fabric, seam construction, closure design and overall coverage of the garment. Depending on the project, rainwear can be manufactured using PU-coated polyester, PVC-coated fabrics, lightweight nylon, laminated waterproof textiles and breathable membrane materials.

Lightweight coated fabrics are suitable for compact emergency rainwear, while stronger multilayer materials may be selected for frequent touring or commuter use. Fabric weight, waterproof performance, breathability, tear resistance and packability are selected according to the intended riding conditions and retail position.

Because water can enter through stitch holes, seams may require waterproof sealing using seam tape or another compatible sealing method. Seam placement can also be controlled to reduce unnecessary construction lines in areas exposed to continuous rain.

Front closures may include waterproof zippers, conventional zippers protected by storm flaps or combined zipper-and-snap systems. Collar construction, zipper garages, cuff adjustments and hem closures are developed to reduce water entry around common exposure points.

Additional options include waterproof pocket bags, reflective panels, fluorescent fabrics, ventilation openings and anti-slip seat applications. Reinforced material may also be positioned around the seat, lower legs or other high-wear areas.

The final rainwear specification is developed according to the customer’s required waterproof performance, breathability, garment weight, durability and target price.

OEM / ODM & Private Label Manufacturing

Glaze provides OEM, ODM and private-label manufacturing services for brands developing custom motorcycle rainwear and waterproof riding gear. Customers may supply complete technical packs, reference samples, measurement charts, sketches or an initial product concept.

Our product-development team can assist with waterproof fabric selection, over-garment pattern development, seam-sealing layouts, closure systems, reflective placement and packable construction. Rainwear can be developed as a standalone product or coordinated with touring, adventure, commuter and urban motorcycle collections.

Every component can be customised, including fabric weight, waterproof construction, colour combinations, fit, pocket layout, cuff systems, ankle closures, reflective areas and ventilation. Available product directions include compact emergency rain suits, breathable touring rainwear, high-visibility over-suits and lightweight commuter jackets and trousers.

Branding options include screen printing, heat-transfer logos, reflective transfers, silicone badges and customised zipper pullers. Private-label services can also include neck labels, size labels, care labels, hangtags, barcode stickers, branded storage pouches and retail packaging.

Men’s, women’s and unisex fits can be developed using customer-provided size charts or measurements created for use over protective riding garments. Prototype sampling allows customers to assess waterproof construction, layering fit, coverage, closure operation and overall appearance before approving bulk production.

Minimum Order Quantity & Production

Every motorcycle rainwear project begins with a review of the garment type, measurements, waterproof requirements, materials and branding details. Prototype development is recommended before bulk production so the customer can evaluate layering capacity, riding-position coverage, packability and closure functionality.

Standard production generally begins from 50 pieces or sets per design. The final minimum order quantity depends on fabric availability, custom colours, waterproof zippers, seam-sealing requirements, reflective materials, labels and packaging.

Sample development normally requires approximately 10–14 working days after the design, measurements, fabrics and branding details have been confirmed. Specially sourced waterproof membranes, custom-dyed materials or unique trims may require additional development time.

After sample approval, production includes fabric inspection, pattern preparation, cutting, panel assembly, seam sealing, zipper and closure installation, reflective application, branding, finishing and quality control.

Completed garments are checked for measurements, seam-tape application, zipper operation, cuff and ankle adjustment, reflective placement and visual consistency. Waterproof construction may also be evaluated according to the agreed product specification and testing method.

Finished rainwear is folded into individual storage pouches or packed according to the customer’s private-label requirements before worldwide export.

Rainwear designed only as a waterproof outer layer over certified protective clothing is not normally marketed as standalone abrasion or impact protection. EN 17092 becomes relevant when the rain garment itself is designed and promoted as protective motorcycle apparel. Final certification depends on the complete garment and successful laboratory testing.
