Motorcycle Textile Vest Design & Manufacturing Guide

Motorcycle Textile Vests for Versatile Riding Use

Motorcycle textile vests are developed for riders who need additional storage, visibility or torso coverage without the weight and full-sleeve construction of a conventional motorcycle jacket. Depending on the product concept, a textile vest may be designed as a lightweight outer layer, utility vest, high-visibility riding garment, adventure vest or protective urban product.

Our development process begins by identifying the intended riding application, target customer, climate and required functionality. Patterns are engineered to maintain a secure fit in the riding position while allowing sufficient room for layering over a shirt, hoodie or protective jacket.

The shoulder width, armhole shape, chest circumference and body length are carefully balanced to prevent restriction or excessive fabric movement. A longer rear hem may be incorporated to improve coverage while seated, while adjustable side straps, elastic panels or waist tabs can help accommodate different layering requirements.

Pocket placement is planned around the riding position so stored items remain accessible without causing discomfort. Available configurations may include chest pockets, cargo compartments, internal document pockets, concealed zipper storage and hydration-compatible sections.

Textile vests can also include front ventilation panels, mesh zones, reflective areas, detachable components and connection systems for attaching the vest to other garments. Each prototype is reviewed for fit, movement, storage accessibility, closure security and overall functionality before bulk production.

Materials & Protection

Material selection determines the textile vest’s weight, durability, breathability and intended use. Depending on the project, vests can be manufactured using high-tenacity polyester, nylon, abrasion-resistant woven fabrics, stretch textiles, softshell materials, mesh or combinations of different fabrics.

Lightweight mesh can be incorporated to increase airflow for warm-weather riding, while stronger textile panels may be positioned around the chest, shoulders and back to improve durability. Water-repellent coatings, wind-resistant layers or waterproof membranes can also be considered for commuter or touring applications.

A textile vest can be manufactured with a dedicated internal pocket for a removable back protector. The pocket shape, access opening and attachment method can be developed around the customer’s selected protector model. Lightweight padding or spacer mesh may also be added to improve comfort around the back and shoulders.

Construction options include reinforced seams, double stitching, bartacks at pocket corners and stress points, durable front zippers, snap closures and adjustable side systems. Reflective piping, high-visibility panels, reflective heat transfers and concealed reflective details can be incorporated according to the intended use.

Because a sleeveless vest does not cover the rider’s arms, shoulders or elbows, its protective role should be clearly defined. It may provide torso functionality and optional back protection, but it should not be presented as a complete substitute for a full protective motorcycle jacket.

OEM / ODM & Private Label Manufacturing

Glaze provides OEM, ODM and private-label manufacturing services for motorcycle brands developing custom textile riding vests. Customers may supply complete technical packs, sketches, reference garments, artwork, measurement charts or an initial product concept.

Our development team can assist with fabric selection, pattern development, pocket configuration, ventilation placement, reflective-panel mapping and back-protector compatibility. Textile vests can be developed as standalone products or coordinated with motorcycle jackets, hoodies, riding shirts and trousers.

Every component can be customised, including fabric type, colour combinations, panel layouts, lining systems, pocket dimensions, closures, side adjustments and reflective applications. Available product directions include urban commuter vests, adventure utility vests, mesh summer vests, high-visibility vests and minimalist protective designs.

Branding options include embroidery, printed graphics, reflective logos, silicone badges, rubber patches, woven labels and customised zipper pullers. Private-label services can also include neck labels, size labels, care labels, hangtags, barcode stickers, branded packaging and individual polybags.

Men’s, women’s and unisex fits can be developed using the customer’s size chart or measurements created for the intended market. Prototype sampling allows customers to evaluate fit, material performance, pocket functionality, protector placement and visual appearance before approving bulk production.

Minimum Order Quantity & Production

Every motorcycle textile vest project begins with a review of the design, materials, measurements, pocket configuration, protector requirements and branding details. Prototype development is recommended before production so the customer can evaluate the vest’s fit, comfort, layering capacity and functionality.

Standard production generally begins from 50 pieces per design. The final minimum order quantity depends on fabric availability, custom colours, reflective materials, specialised trims, branding and overall design complexity.

Sample development normally requires approximately 10–14 working days after the design, measurements, materials and branding details have been confirmed. Custom-dyed fabrics, specially developed hardware or moulded branding components may require additional time.

Following sample approval, production includes fabric inspection, pattern preparation, cutting, pocket assembly, protector-pocket construction, stitching, reflective application, branding, finishing and quality control.

Measurements, seam construction, zipper and snap operation, pocket security, reflective placement and overall appearance are checked against the approved sample. Completed textile vests are then packed according to the customer’s private-label requirements and prepared for worldwide export.
