Motorcycle Midlayer Jackets for Thermal Insulation 

Motorcycle mid-layer jackets are developed to provide warmth beneath an outer riding jacket while maintaining freedom of movement and reducing unnecessary bulk. Unlike protective outer jackets, a mid-layer is primarily intended to support thermal comfort and must fit comfortably between the rider’s base layer and motorcycle shell.

Our development process begins by identifying the intended climate, outer-jacket fit, insulation requirement and target rider. Patterns are engineered with a close but comfortable silhouette so the garment can be layered without restricting movement around the shoulders, elbows and torso.

Sleeves may be shaped for a natural riding position, while the body length can be adjusted to sit comfortably beneath touring, adventure or urban motorcycle jackets. A slightly shorter front can reduce material gathering while seated, while sufficient rear coverage helps maintain comfort around the lower back.

Hybrid constructions can combine insulated quilted panels across the chest and back with stretch fabric through the sides, sleeves or underarms. This arrangement provides warmth around the torso while supporting mobility in areas that move during riding.

Design options include full-zip jackets, quarter-zip pullovers, hybrid fleece jackets, insulated vests and hoodless thermal layers. Collar height, cuff construction, hem adjustment and pocket placement can all be developed according to the customer’s intended layering system.

Each prototype is evaluated beneath the intended outer jacket to assess fit, mobility, sleeve bulk, collar compatibility and overall comfort before bulk-production approval.


Materials & Insulation Performance

The performance of a motorcycle mid-layer depends on its balance of insulation, breathability, wind resistance, packability and garment weight. Depending on the intended climate, jackets can be manufactured using quilted nylon or polyester shells, fleece, stretch softshell fabrics, brushed knits and lightweight technical woven materials.

Synthetic insulation can be incorporated into the chest, back, shoulders or sleeves according to the required level of warmth. Different insulation weights can be selected for mild-weather, cold-weather or winter-oriented products. Zoned insulation may also be used to reduce bulk in high-movement areas.

Hybrid jackets commonly combine insulated torso panels with stretch sleeves and side sections. This construction helps maintain warmth around the rider’s core while improving flexibility and allowing the jacket to fit more comfortably beneath protective motorcycle outerwear.

Wind-resistant outer panels can help reduce heat loss, while moisture-managing or breathable fabrics may be used around the underarms and back. Inner linings can include lightweight polyester, brushed fleece, mesh or other customer-specified materials.

Construction options include quilted baffles, bonded insulation, elasticated cuffs, stretch-bound hems, internal storm flaps and chin guards. Lightweight zippers, concealed hand pockets and packable constructions can also be incorporated.

The final combination of fabric, insulation and lining is selected according to the intended riding climate, outer-shell compatibility, target garment weight and retail positioning.

Our product-development team can assist with insulation selection, hybrid-panel mapping, pattern engineering, quilting design, stretch-fabric placement and layering compatibility. Mid-layers can be developed as standalone products or coordinated with motorcycle touring jackets, adventure shells and complete seasonal riding collections.

Every component can be customised, including outer fabrics, insulation weight, quilting pattern, colour combinations, collar shape, cuff design, pocket configuration and hem construction. Minimum Order Quantity & Production 

Every motorcycle mid-layer jacket project begins with a review of the design, measurements, fabrics, insulation requirements and branding details. Prototype development is recommended before bulk production so the customer can evaluate the jacket’s fit beneath outer riding apparel, freedom of movement and overall thermal construction.

Standard production generally begins from 50 pieces per design. The final minimum order quantity depends on fabric availability, custom colours, insulation materials, quilting patterns, branded trims and design complexity.

Sample development normally requires approximately 10–14 working days after the design, measurements, materials and branding details have been confirmed. Custom-dyed fabrics, specially sourced insulation, unique quilting or newly developed trims may require additional time.

After sample approval, production includes fabric and insulation inspection, pattern preparation, panel cutting, quilting, stretch-panel assembly, stitching, zipper installation, branding application, finishing and quality control.

Completed jackets are checked for measurements, insulation distribution, quilting consistency, zipper function, seam quality and branding placement. Layering compatibility can also be checked against the approved specification or corresponding outer jacket.

Finished mid-layers are folded, packed according to the customer’s private-label requirements and prepared for worldwide export.
