Armored Motorcycle Riding Shirt Design & Manufacturing Guide

Motorcycle Riding Shirts for Lightweight Protection

Armored motorcycle riding shirts are developed for riders who want the appearance and comfort of casual clothing with protective features designed for motorcycle use. Compared with conventional riding jackets, protective shirts generally use a lighter and less structured construction, making them suitable for urban riding, commuting and casual motorcycle apparel collections.

Our design process begins by identifying the intended riding environment, required fit and target level of protection. Patterns are developed to maintain a natural shirt appearance while providing sufficient room for protective reinforcements, armour pockets and an internal lining system. Sleeve length, shoulder width, body length and armhole shape are adjusted for a comfortable seated riding position.

Design options include classic button-up shirts, protective flannel shirts, overshirts, snap-front styles and concealed zip-front constructions. Features such as adjustable cuffs, shirt-to-trouser connection loops, internal storage pockets, ventilation openings and hidden armour access can be integrated according to the product requirements.

Protector positioning is reviewed during prototype development to help keep shoulder and elbow armour correctly aligned while riding. Each sample is assessed for fit, mobility, closure security, comfort and overall appearance before progressing to production.

Materials & Protection

The materials used in an armored riding shirt must balance casual appearance, rider comfort and abrasion-resistant construction. Depending on the design, outer fabrics can include heavyweight cotton twill, flannel, canvas, denim, softshell materials or technical textile blends.

Protective reinforcement may be incorporated at the shoulders, elbows, forearms and back using aramid fabric, abrasion-resistant knitted materials or other customer-specified protective textiles. Reinforcement can be limited to key impact zones or used as a more extensive internal protective layer depending on the intended performance and garment weight.

Riding shirts can be manufactured with breathable mesh linings or lightweight textile linings to cover internal reinforcement and create a cleaner finish. Dedicated pockets can be added for removable shoulder, elbow and back protectors, with access positioned so armour can be removed for washing or replacement.

Additional construction options include reinforced safety seams, bartacks at stress points, secure snap closures, concealed front zippers, YKK zippers, reflective details and connection loops designed to reduce the shirt lifting while riding. The final material and construction combination is selected according to the customer’s target market, price level and certification objectives.

OEM / ODM & Private Label Manufacturing

Glaze provides OEM, ODM and private-label manufacturing services for motorcycle brands developing custom armored riding shirts. Customers may provide complete technical packs, reference garments, sketches, inspiration images or an initial product concept.

Our product development team can assist with fabric selection, reinforcement layouts, pattern development, protector-pocket construction, closure systems and branding placement. Every component can be customised, including colours, check patterns, lining materials, buttons, snaps, zippers, embroidery, woven patches, silicone logos and reflective applications.

Private-label options include custom neck labels, size labels, care labels, hangtags, zipper pullers, buttons, packaging and barcode stickers. We can also develop men’s, women’s, unisex, regular, slim, relaxed and oversized fits according to the customer’s size chart and target market.

Prototype sampling allows the customer to review the riding shirt’s fit, fabric weight, armour positioning, construction and visual appearance before bulk production. Any required revisions can be completed during the development stage so the approved sample becomes the reference for manufacturing.

Minimum Order Quantity & Production

Every armored motorcycle riding shirt project begins with a review of the design, material requirements, protective construction and branding details. Sample development is recommended before bulk production so the customer can evaluate the garment’s fit, comfort, reinforcement coverage and protector positioning.

Minimum order quantities depend on fabric availability, colour requirements, custom trims and the complexity of the design. Standard production generally begins from 50 pieces per design, although the final MOQ is confirmed after reviewing the complete specification.

Once the prototype is approved, the production process includes material inspection, pattern preparation, cutting, reinforcement placement, armour-pocket construction, stitching, branding application, finishing and quality control. Measurements, workmanship, closures and visual appearance are checked against the approved sample and specification.

Completed riding shirts are folded, packed and prepared for export according to the customer’s packaging requirements. We support international motorcycle brands, distributors and retailers with sample development, bulk manufacturing and worldwide shipping.
