Custom Motorcycle Glove Development

Every custom motorcycle glove project begins by defining the intended riding application, target rider, fit, materials and required protection features. Customers may provide a complete technical pack, hand measurements, reference gloves, artwork or an initial product concept.

Motorcycle glove development requires careful attention to palm width, finger length, thumb rotation, knuckle position and wrist opening. Patterns are engineered around the natural hand position used when gripping motorcycle handlebars so the glove can provide control without unnecessary material bunching or restriction.

Different glove categories require different constructions. Racing gloves generally use extended gauntlets and more extensive protection, while touring gloves may require waterproof membranes and thermal insulation. Urban and sport gloves typically use shorter cuffs, while motocross gloves prioritise lightweight flexibility and direct handlebar feel.

Palm reinforcement, finger articulation, stretch panels, protector positioning and wrist-retention systems are confirmed during prototype development. Where touchscreen functionality is required, conductive materials can be integrated into selected fingertips.

A prototype is produced before bulk manufacturing so the customer can evaluate sizing, grip, finger mobility, protector alignment, wrist security and overall appearance. Required revisions can then be incorporated before final production approval.

Motorcycle Glove Materials & Protective Construction

Motorcycle gloves can be developed using cowhide, goatskin, kangaroo leather, synthetic leather, high-tenacity textiles, stretch fabrics, breathable mesh and hybrid material combinations according to the intended riding application and target price.

Leather selection can vary across different areas of the glove. Softer materials may be used where flexibility and control sensitivity are important, while stronger or reinforced materials can be positioned around the palm, fingers and other high-wear areas.

Protective components can include moulded knuckle shells, finger armour, palm sliders, scaphoid reinforcement, impact-absorbing foam and reinforced wrist sections. Components may use carbon fibre, TPU, TPR or other suitable materials depending on the required product specification.

Construction can also include pre-curved fingers, external seams, stretch gussets, double-layer palm sections, ventilation openings, silicone grip applications, waterproof membranes and thermal liners.

Sport, racing, touring, urban and off-road gloves each require a different balance of protection, flexibility, ventilation and control sensitivity. Materials and construction are therefore selected according to the intended use rather than applying one standard glove construction across every category.

Where certification is required, motorcycle gloves can be developed with the applicable EN 13594 performance requirements considered during material selection, seam construction, restraint-system development and protective-component integration. Final certification depends on successful testing of the completed glove through an appropriate laboratory.

Following prototype approval, production includes material inspection, panel cutting, reinforcement preparation, protector installation, stitching, closure assembly, branding, finishing and quality inspection. Finished gloves are checked for sizing consistency, finger movement, protector alignment, wrist retention and left-to-right matching before packing.
